The House of Ruth Building Campaign

volunteer playing game.jpg

To triple our overall capacity, Family Promise is embarking on a $3.7 million campaign to build and staff the House of Ruth, a public-private partnership to end the cycle of homelessness for more Orange County families.

Developed in partnership with HomeAid Orange County and the City of Tustin, this new housing community and comprehensive Navigation Center are optimally designed to support more than 200 struggling families each year.

A PROMISE TO BRING

FAMILIES HOME

Built on land donated by the City of Tustin, seven apartment-style housing units ranging in size from one to three bedrooms will provide short-term transitional housing for homeless families. This design is particularly important to support larger families, including multi-generational families, that typically cannot be accommodated by other housing programs.

Key Highlights:

  • Community Navigation Center offering vital support programs that promote stability, health, healing and self-sufficiency.

  • Onsite Case Manager and Housing Navigator to provide families with access to tools such as computers with internet connection, credit repair counseling, employment assistance and laundry facilities.

  • Private bathrooms with showers so that homeless families have a safe place to bathe – a resource that currently is completely lacking for homeless families in Orange County.

A COMMUNITY-WIDE PARTNERSHIP

Family Promise of Orange County, HomeAid Orange County, and the City of Tustin are collaborating, bolstered by robust support from the faith community, to combat family homelessness in Orange County with the House of Ruth Building Campaign.

HomeAid Orange County brings 31 years of housing development experience to this project and will ensure the construction project is completed on time and on budget by providing a builder captain who will help to minimize costs and secure in-kind donations of time, labor, and materials. This effort will reduce cash expenses for this project by approximately 30%.

Once construction is complete, HomeAid Orange County will turn over the House of Ruth to Family Promise of Orange County to staff and operate this program in line with our mission.

With a shared commitment to ending family homelessness in our community, the City of Tustin is providing 18,500 sq. ft. of land for the House of Ruth, based on a Disposition and Development Agreement approved by the Tustin City Council in early 2020.
